Took I-15 north from Idaho Falls to Butte, Montana, to connect with I-90 heading east. This boot-toe of Idaho, into southwestern Montana, would be on the list of most beautiful places -- little green valleys with pretty rivers, horses, farms, and small towns, ranks of taller mountains blue and purple against a golden-poppy sunset. The fields are a particularly lush, darker green, like a nubbly golf course -- potato tops, maybe? or hops -- I pass a huge row of joined silos wrapped in a Budweiser banner, like a giant's six-pack. The fields of Idaho are full of rainbows, sun on the arcing spray of rolling irrigators. A field with 5 horses and a foal, and then a man among them. I think, I can imagine his life no more than the life of a Hottentot, what a different world this is.
