Location

West Wendover, United States, Nevada

camped at a KOA campground here... VERY minimal camping facilities, they really are set up for RV's... but, hung out and used the free internet in their lodge, and had electricity to make hot tea and oatmeal for breakfast. Washed laundry, wrote some reports. This was an ugly but very practical stop.
Sometime last night on the way here I came to the end of
the Lord of the Rings BBC radio play audiobook, crying as usual over
Frodo passing into the West while I'm passing into the East. The
image of Sam and Frodo creeping through Mordor enlivened the flat
desert that is pretty much the whole of this part of Nevada, so
featureless that, after stopping at the Beowawe rest stop (an official
Geothermal Resource, with geysers that they're trying to tap instead
of "wasting energy" per the sign... which made me think about how
people define "waste"... like the geysers were put there for
us?!)...anyway, so featureless, I lost about 30 minutes when I got on
the highway heading the wrong way and didn't even realize it until
seeing a rest stop that I'd already passed (saved from a looooong
return to California only by making a sneaky illegal U-turn at one of
the state patrol pass-throughs).
