Our Alaska Trip 2011
We flew from KC to Anchorage June 10th. Arrived in Anchorage @ 1PM. Rented a car and headed to the hotel. We had diner at the Moose Tooth (Good Pizza).
The next day we headed toward Denali up the Parks Highway. We took the inevitable side trip to the wonderful town of Talkettna. We then went did a hike in Denali State Park. Little Coal Creek. Stayed at Denali River Cabins on the Nenana River just outside Denali National Park.

We did Denali National Park for 2 days. Day 1 we took the bus all the way out to Wonder Lake. 12Hr Round Trip. Left at 6AM got back at about 6PM. In and out of rain all day! Day 2 we decided to take the bus to the bridge of East Fork of the Tolklat River where we made our way down a steep embankment to hike the river bed. After hiking about 2 miles in we turned around and headed back. Climbed the embankment agian to catch a bus to the top of Polychrome Pass where we hiked around a bit on the trails off to the right.

Then it was on to Fielding Lake State Park Cabin. Up the Parks Highway over to the Richardson Highway and down to Fielding Lake. The Cabin was nice. Managed to get it to about 85 degrees (oops) with the wood burning stove. It was very Windy and Rainy there so we decided to take a Drive. Ended up down a dirt "road" which ended up turning into a river bed coming off some Glacier.

The next day we headed down to Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. We stayed in Currant Ridge Cabins. They were very lovely! Spent the evening in McCarthy and just looking around. The next day we grabbed a Shuttle up to Kennocott to do the hike to Root Glacier Toe.

Then it was off toward Wasilia/Anchorage we had planed to stay in Wasilia but decided to just head to Anchorage putting us closer to the Kenai Peninsula. Then it was off to Seward and out to Orca Island Cabins.

What an amazing place Orca Island was. This is where we got to Sea Kayak and Fish and walk the tide pools and just relax. The next morning we woke up to the sound of a Humpback Whale breaching in the cove. After taking video and photos of theIi jumped into the sea kayak and tried to get as close as I could ( I know, wise right?)

Then it was off to Homer and out halibut fishing. And just doing the Homer thing. Love that lil town.

Then it was up to Soldonta for a night then north to Anchorage and then home!

We were in Alaska from June 10th - the 26th (16 Days)
