Location

Al-Riyad (Riyadh), Saudi Arabia

Arriving is Riyad was one of the less enjoyable experiences I have had before. Firstly I stood in one of the 8 long queues with hundreds of Pakistanis, Indonesians & Philippinos for about 40 minutes. When Daniel and I got close to the front of the queue, the security guard came up to us and asked if it was our first time going into Saudi. When I replied yes, he send me to the back of the longest queue on the left of the airport; along with a lot of other poor non-Saudi souls looking shaky. Daniel said I stood out like a saw eye between all the Pakies! I stood there for 15 minutes without moving and then the security guy came back and pulled only me from the queue, placing me 15 people from the front in another queue. Five minutes later another guy pulled me from that queue and took me directly to the passport control. He asked me if I came from Dubai and when I replied yes, he simply let me through! Weird, weird stuff… unfortunately you (as a foreigner) have no authority or say in Saudi, so the best way to do things is to go with the flow. We picked up our rental car and drove to the Sheraton 5 Star hotel. The night I slept like a baby (a baby that actually sleeps) in a 5 star queen size super soft bed!
