Tin Can bay to Kagaroo Point Brisbane

Tuesday 22-12
Our last morning in Tin Can Bay - V decided to spend some time perfecting her diving in the pool - and she did very well. She arrived here in Oz not being able to dive at all and has taught herself very well indeed!

Once again we packed up and were soon on our way south heading for Brisbane. We have only seen one kangaroo whilst on the road, and thats good - we wouldnt want to see any more. If they leap out in front of the car whilst driving, and they do, they cause nasty accidents. I suppose its a bit like someone hitting a deer whilst driving trough Thetford Forest. We have been told that most of the Roo's come out about dusk between 6-7 and thats the most dangerous time to drive, so if possible we have been avoiding driving at that time. Most of the main highways have wide grassy banks either side of the road, about 15' of short grass, which I can only assume is to help drivers see any Kangaroo's.

Anyhow we just HAD to stop on our journey... and Chris you are gonna love this!!! Our very own Geo Caching Travel Bug, Mr Policeman Plod himself, had travelled all the way from Norfolk, only to be placed in a Cache just outside Brisbane, on the exact road that we were travelling on! Just how much of a coincidence is that!!! Of course we just had to stop to be re-united with him and say hello. The cache was within some course woodland at the side of the freeway. We waded in following the GPS plot point and found it shortly after, a big oil canister. Laurence then spotted an evil looking spider in its web between the trees where we were walking! So we didn't want to hang around too long! We left 'Policeman Plod' there so that he could enjoy some Oz travels himself.

As we approached Brisbane on newly built roads, we could see it was a big City, with lots of high rise hotels, apartments and offices. Many of the roads through the City were 3 lanes, and so many one way streets. After not having seen many people since Cairns, with all the places that we have stayed having been pretty quiet, it was incredible to see so many cars. We found our accommodation, Kangaroo Point Apartments, which is very modern, clean and well appointed (except no washing machine) but smaller than expected. After a quick lunch we decided to walk into the City.
