Overview
It was then time for a quick lunch before the next activity... Horseriding for Victoria and me. It was unbearably hot when we started off, and there were 3 other novices on the ride, with Victoria who had 3 lessons before coming here (and learnt how to do rising trot) and me the only experienced rider in the group. We had a trot, and the 3 first time riders decided that they didnt want to trot again, and decided to walk for the rest of the hack. So one of the leaders decided to take V and me off for another trot, and for Victoria's first canter. Unfortunately it didnt quite go to plan. V's horse bolted, and bless her she could not stop it for love nor money! I was yelling my head off "Pull on the reins hard - PULL!!" She slipped to the right and amazingly managed to get back in the saddle, but then the slipped over the left and the horse was still cantering through the bush... and then she fell off and the horse cantered off into the bush. All the time her horse was bolting, I had to helplessly stand still and let her go because if I had chased after her, the horses would have thought it was a race and her pony would have gone even faster. When she fell off, I was then able to canter up to her and try to calm her down. She was very shaken, with quite a few scratches, but nothing serious. After about 10 mins we were able to catch her pony, and of course she didnt want to get back on, but mean ole Mum made her - we had another 1 hour and 45 minutes left of the hack! So she very reluctantly got back on and we walked to the beach, seeing some Kangaroo's on the way, to meet the others. Things then improved as they changed her horse to a bit of a "plodder" and we then rode bare back in the sea which was a great experience. Lizzie
In the meantime,... Laurence & I went back to the beach and hired a sea kayak for an hour. (better than shopping eah?!!) out on the ocean in a cool sea breeze (and more controlable and predictable than a horse anyday!!).
Stopped at Alma Bay on the way back to the apartment. Took some great sunset shots.
