Lake Titicaca, Peru
After meeting my tour group in Lima we flew to Juliaca before taking a bus ride Puno, on the shores of Lake Titicaca, 3830 m above sea level. Everyone had time to adjust to the altitude (or buy drugs to help!) in Puno before we set off on Lake Titicaca.
Titicaca is the largest lake in the world above 2000m, and our boat (driven by a young boy at first!) took us across to the Taquile Islands. These were beautiful and we had time to meet the locals and eat lunch before heading across to Amantani where we stayed overnight with a local family. Mine was lovely and Janet, Sofia and I stayed there together, the kids were fantastic (I almost packed one in my bag!) and we got to dress up and dance to local music in the evening and eat dinner with them. The following morning we visited the floating islands of Uros, these are made entirely of reeds and the people were so beautiful and friendly, I couldn´t help but buy crafts from all these people!
On our return to Puno we found out a transport strike was planned for the next day so we headed off to Cusco that evening.
