Location
Lima, Peru
Had an early but good flight to Lima this morning and met the little man at the airport for my transfer, despite the sign he was holding saying Chadmundo (that´s a new one!). He was very entertaining and between my little Spanish and his little English we had quite a good conversation in the car, aswell as singing along to Lionel Richie and The Rolling Stones!
The Red Llama hostel is really nice and situated South of the centre in a nice district called Miraflores. Its pretty funky and well decorated and I even arrived in time to get my free breakfast... my third of the day!
I had planned to travel and take a flight over the Nasca lines today but there was some confusion with bus times and so I didn´t go. It was pretty adventurous attempting to get there and back to Lima in a day so hopefully I can go via Nasca on my return from Cusco to Lima.
Instead, Johnny from the hostel took me and 2 kiwi guys (Neil and Mina) on a guided tour of downtown. We visited Museo del Tribunal de la Santa Inquisicion, which was used by the Spanish Inquisition from 1570 to 1829 to torture prisioners. We walked to Plaza de Armas, the oldest part of Lima to see the changing of the guard at Palacio de Gobierno then visited the Monasterio de San Francisco with its famous catacombs and library. Lunch was many Peruvian dishes which we shared alongside a local beer. Tonight we are going to Circuito Magico del Agua (largest water and light show in South America) at Parque de la Reserva.
I don´t have any photos of the tour downtown to post but Neil is planning on sending me some. I do however have some very funny pics from our water extravaganza last night! Oh and the lady BBQ-ing was cooking our dinner, meat (of some sort) with spuds and corn. nice!
