The past 6 days have taken me on a loop of the island; up the warm East coast and down the cold and wet West. I visited the Tasman Peninsula and got to explore Port Arthur where convicts were sent from Britain, don't worry there were no Chadbunds listed on the database, but the cruise around the harbour and 'death' island was beautiful.
At Freycinet National Park Ian took us on an 11km hike around the park and to the famous white sand beach at Wineglass Bay. We headed to the surf town of Bicheno, home to the Penguins, and celebrated Susannes birthday with fish and chips and wine!
We had great weather along the East coast and the scenery from Bicheno to St Helens was beautiful. The Bay of Fires, recently rated by Lonely Planet as no.1 must see places was stunning, amazing views with no one around but us. After a short visit to the rainforests and waterfall at St Columba Falls we stayed overnight in Launceston.
Cradle Mountain national park was spectacular but the weather had totally changed and the hike to Marion's lookout was hindered by snow, rain and cold! Staying overnight in a wooden cabin with a log fire was well worth it though!
The West coast was wild, but I had so much fun climbing Henty Sand Dunes and body boarding down the 30 meter slopes! Great fun! On route back inland I visited Nelson Falls, the famous Franklin River and Lake St Clair. The Derwent Valley was beautiful and I got to see the tall trees (over 150m tall!) and Russell Falls at Mt Field National Park before returning to Hobart.
