Canoe expedition down rivers Azul and São Benetito, south of Pará, Brazil
Canoagem Rios Azul e São Benedito, Pará, Brasil
8 members in 3 Canadian canoes and 2 inflatable kayaks were part of this 7-days expedition.
Both rivers Azul and São Benedito (Blue and St. Benedict) are protected by wilderness legislation, therefore only recreational fishing, or fishing for local consumption are allowed. Commercial development of this region is also legislated by these laws, limited to 2 eco-tourism companies (birdwatching and recreational fishing) and a floating hotel.
The region is wild and isolated, especially in the northern boundaries, limited by military-only areas and an indigenous reserve. The once wild forest to the South has been ravaged for cattle feed, although far from the rivers, as noticeable on Google Earth.

Expedição de canoagem nos rios Azul e São Benedito, no sul do Pará, Brasil, em julho de 2008.
A expedição contou com 8 integrantes em 3 canoas canadenses e 2 caiaques infláveis.
Os rios Azul e São Benedito são protegidos por lei ambiental, que permite apenas a pesca esportiva ou para consumo no próprio local. O uso comercial da região é regido pela mesma lei, limitada a 2 empresas de turismo ecológico (pesque-e-solte, birdwatching, etc.) e 1 hotel flutuante.
A região é isolada e selvagem, principalmente ao norte, onde é limitada por área da aeronáutica e reserva indígena. Ao sul ocorreram desmatamentos para pasto, mas relativamente longe dos rios, como pode ser observado no googleearth.
