Zambia. Siobhan Knight and Stephanie Thomas organized the trip, and Ms. Thomas and Julia Smith served as chaperones.
The students did community service at 3 schools associated with the
Kucetekela Foundation (started by Oliver Barry '01). They lived at one of the schools (Chalo Trust School) for 2 weeks and each day they visited all 3 schools. At the schools, they sat in on classes, gave workshops on topics such as public speaking skills, poetry, resume writing, cultural exchange, and they also helped teach classes. During the afternoons they went into communal areas and painted 3 local schools. During their trip, they also learned cultural dances, songs, and cooking. During the final week, they spent time travelling; they visited the Lower Zambezi National Park and Victoria Falls. They went on an elephant ride and took a helicopter ride
over the falls.
