Overview

Tagline

I recently visited the US on a business trip to Washington D.C. and Seattle. Towards the end of the trip, I took a couple of days off to see New York and take a few snapshots of the BIG city.

New York is a mass of humanity crammed into a space so tight that you can feel the city screaming into the sky. This city never stops, nor do its inhabitants. Its like a vortex, a black hole where the concentration of everything is so dense that the melting pot attracts ever increasing numbers of people and capital. If you can't find it in New York, then it doesn't exist, they say. Form beggars to richlings, from black to brown, white, yellow and red. It's a rich man's playground and a city of opportunity for those that have the will and talent to get ahead.

And then there's us. The benign tourist - a species that is also abundant in New York, but exists in a prallel dimension, somewhat out-of-sync with the natives. Time passes more slowly for us, and interactions with the local population are limited to what is necessary for a peaceful coexistence. This is the story of one such specimen.

I walked down Fifth avenue on my way back and stopped for some coffee at the Starbucks in Trump Tower. The coffee was just about the only thing I could afford in this place. Judging by how busy the coffee shop was, I guess I wasn't the only one :-). Wasn't too much bothered about it...

After the electronics shopping spree, I unloaded my bags at the hotel and headed for Central Park. Central Park is HUGE. It's not so much a well-maintained park, it's more like a vast recreation area serving millions of joggers. I really liked the views of New York's skyscrapers...
