The Great Ocean Road isn't really that great and there's long stretches of it that tend to be a bit short on ocean, too. I'd like to invite any Aussies that take issue with that to drive Highway 101 down the west side of North America for a while, particularly in Oregon. That said, there are some occasional vantage points on the Great Ocean Road that offer stunning views of beautiful water intricately working over amazingly eroded rocks -- and for all of the water-visibility it has, 101 doesn't have the occasional quality that the Great Ocean Road does.
