yay we arrived in langkawi! a little island paradise in north east Malaysia very close to the thai border. We arrived Wednesday afer a lovely boat ride from Penang. On arrival we did the usual wander around and find a taxi deal. All was well until we were dropped at our choice of accomodation (carefully selcted from the lonely planet) which was aparently full. So up the road of the main beach we continued only find that everywhere within our budget was fully occupied. It was hot, and our packs were heavy. We quickly became quite frazzled and desperate. Finally we found a small room with an attached bathroon and a fan for... RM70 (around $25)!!! But at least we had somewhere to put our bags and rest our heads.
We have sinc found out that the Langkawi air show is on this week which evidently means that all the accomodation is full. Not only that but we have had to put up with ighter jets and such fleying over every 10 minutes and police sirens every half a hour as a band of official looking cars goes racing down the main street.
So you'd think with all the racket and such that we would just escape to the beach, however we have been lessed wih cloudy, rainy weather since the day we arrived! Not happy jan!
I'm thinking we better just get to thailand asap... its too expensive here!
Despite all this we had a swim and a lay on the beach this morning and have amused ourselves most of the rest of the time with some great little cafes, lots of lemon iced teas, a couple of good books and the occasional game of cards... i'm not complaining. :)
