We rose early to another hot and humid day. There were already alot of boats on the river. We have to cross a 3 mile wide lake today and the boat traffic is crazy. They would zip past, just about swamping us - but - they would smile and wave nicely! Everyone seemed to be in a real hurry to get nowhere. When we got to lock and dam #13, the Lockmaster delivered a message from Ron and Sandy and directed us to a campground only three bridges down. We knew we had arrived at the campground because the shore was solid boats. After a fruitless search for a site, we went back to our boats and set off again. Most of the sandbars were either under water or very soft and muddy. We finally found a site about 5 miles down river. It was a small spot, filled with flood debris. Joe promptly set about crafting a comfortable place out of plastic barrels, lumber, and lawnchairs. It also occured to us that when the river area floods, local waste treatment plants dump sewage directly into the river. We both agreed that we wouldn't wash our dishes in the river ever again. We traveled 40 miles today which brings us to a total of 751 miles since we left 29 days ago. We have lots of aches, blisters, and sunburn. Since we are down river from the campgrounds, we are hoping for a quiet, peaceful night. .... by dz

Hi Guys, You guys are putting on some serious miles. Following you every day, just couldn't be better. Coming from the pristine area of Grand Marais, it's terrible that you have to see the way we treat our waters in this area. The Milwaukee area dumps tons of raw sewage into Lake Michigan every 2 or 3 inch rainfall. We all need to be better "stewarts" of our land. In the last 38 years we've gone from 1 Wolf River apple tree in the yard, to 80 some thousand trees and most of the fields in a natural grasslands program. It's had a huge impact on people in the area and what they are doing with there land. Keep up on the reports and I'll be picking your brains at the next reunion. Be Safe Guys Ken

Hi Aunt Anne and Uncle Joe!!!! No one should ever say they can not accomplish something. You both are a true testiment to what can be done if you put your heart and soul into it. I enjoy the discriptions of your sites and feel as though I am there seeing it with you, just without the blisters, sore arms and backs, itchy limbs and sunburns. What a way for me to travel!!!!! ;) Ha. I hiked the Grand Canyon in one day. Going from the North rim and ending at the South rim. 25 miles seems like a long way to go........751 miles is a SUPERB!!!!! Keep on going, we are all cheering you on and enjoying your adventure. Great writing Great Grandma Dee!!! We Love you!!!! Our thoughts and prayers will continue for safe paddling. I'll end my book here. :) Love you both. Take care of eachother! Paul, Amy, Gracie and Luke
