Joe and Anne's Big Adventure

We have been planning this trip for 2 years. This is Joe's dream and I've decided to go along. At first I thought the idea would pass but it didn't, so i decided to start researching the idea to see if it was anything I'd ever consider doing. I found out that a few people actually do this every year. We prepared ourselves as well as possible by reading, conditioning, paddling Lake Superior, racing, and buying the right equipment. We've done our wills, insured our kayaks, found a housesitter, finished our work at our jobs and just generally organized our lives. We've talked to a few people that have paddled the length of the River and I feel we are as ready as we'll ever be. I feel that using common sense along with the skills we've acquired will help us be successful just like we do when paddling Lake Superior.

We'll try to post as often as possible but we do not have a lap-top to take along so bear with us. We hope you will all be able to experience and enjoy our journey along with us.

We thank you for the support of our wonderful friends and family and everyone that has helped us so far. And to the wonderful paddling people we've contacted so far willing to help us along the way, thank you and we'll see you when we get there. Enjoy the ride.

As some of you know, I have been updating Joe and Anne's log for them. I have been the words of Anne. I likely have made many errors and misstatements. One thing I know I have not misstated is the tremendous gratitude and love they have for all of you who have followed, prayed for, and rooted...

Today is the day for the Phat Water Kayak Challenge. We arose at 4:00 AM and boarded a school bus an hour later for the ride to Port Gibson. The bus, jammed with nervous participants and their gear, arrived about one hour later at the put-in point in Port Gibson. The town had mowed the shoreline...

We spent the day helping Keith and the committee with race preparations. I helped with registration and Joe with equipment repair. Last year there were about 50 participants, this year it nearly doubled to 89 registrants. Gear needed to be shuttled to the starting point in Port Gibson and last...
