Location

Shiquan, China

Just outside Shiquan we passed another police checkpoint without really noticing it. A few km down the road a small police bus passed us and signed that we should stop. Two men came out and asked where we were going. When we said towards Hanzhong they told us no foreigners are allowed on this road. Andreas tried to ask why and if we could take another road but they were starting to lose their temper and just told us to take the train out of town.
We went back to Shiquan to have lunch and found out that the next train was leaving at 2.40. A man started talking to us during lunch and he did not understand why we had been stopped. As we were talking to him another man came up and said something and they both dissapeared in the middle of a sentence.
A few minutes later a young woman came and flashed her police badge. She told us to follow her to the police station, but we could finish our lunch first.
At the station they took copies of our passports and explained that we were allowed to be in Shiquan, but it was illegal to cycle there, away from, or around the town. Now we had no choice but to take the train. Hanzhong, 160km to the west, was the first town we could get off.
Taking the train didnt feel right and we missed a lot of nice scenery but we were trapped..
