Martin didn’t let being cut off from the team’s escort boat slow him down. He capitalized on strong currents to swim another 181 km in the two days since leaving Manaus, ending the day with a warm reception at Itacoatira. After dinner, the team got one member back from the hospital after his bout with stomach amoebas, but had to put another one in an ambulance. Dr. Leonni Stanonik went into anaphylactic shock after an allergic reaction. By the time the team got her to the hospital she was in the beginning stages of respiratory arrest and was delirious. She’s out of eminent danger now, but will have to remain in the surgical intensive care unit overnight for monitoring.
