Upon leaving the last village last night, some people told us they'd seen chimps nesting higher up the cliff not too long ago. We decided to come back tonight and spend the night up there, and then look for the chimps in the morning. We started early in the morning to the waterfall. We got lost a bit in the millet fields, but we got there eventually. There is water flowing here all year round and it forms a good-size natural pool where one can swim. We stayed there for a few hours, I had a nap on a large flat rock, lulled by the sound of water crashing, in the shade and the cooler air. We ate our lunch of tinned sardines then made for the cliff. We stopped for tea and to ask directions and started walking up the hill once the heat had abated. We got lost some more in the sorghum and the bamboo, and reached the village once the night had fallen. There weren't any lights but for a couple of cooking fires, the moon and some distant lightning. We ate a dish of bean-leaves and crushed peanuts - delicious! - and some rice with peanut sauce. I was offered a bucket of hot water for a shower, then we slept under the stars.
